As the year comes to a close, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) is cracking down on drunk driving in preparation for the New Year celebrations. Special teams, in collaboration with Pune Police, will be keeping a close eye on busy roads throughout the city from 25th to 31st December. With the festive season in full swing, it’s important to address the issue of drunk driving, which often leads to accidents and traffic congestion.
Sub Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale emphasized the importance of the five-day inspection campaign, which will involve setting up barriers at key intersections and roads. Drivers will be subjected to breathalyzer tests, as well as checks on their vehicle documents, driving licenses, and registration papers. Those found driving under the influence will face legal consequences.
The RTO will also be targeting minor drivers, with a plea to parents to prevent underage driving. Bhosale stressed the need for everyone to avoid driving after drinking alcohol and to adhere to traffic rules.
With late-night parties and festivities on the horizon, bars, pubs, and hotels in Pune have been granted permission to operate into the early hours. However, in light of the potential risks associated with alcohol consumption, measures have been put in place to conduct checks at these venues to ensure the safety of all road users. Stay safe on the roads this New Year’s Eve and remember to always drive responsibly.
