Pune’s Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has reason to celebrate as it has climbed 37 spots in the QS Asia University Rankings for 2025, securing the 173rd position. This improvement highlights the university’s dedication to academic excellence and research.
Some of the key areas where SPPU excelled include its strong research output per faculty member, an increased number of staff with PhDs, and a robust international research network through collaborations with global institutions. However, the university faced challenges in outbound student exchange programs and recruiting international students and faculty.
Dr. Parag Kalkar, SPPU’s Pro Vice Chancellor, expressed pride in the university’s achievements and emphasized the importance of continuous improvement. He highlighted the need to focus on faculty recruitment, exchange programs, and employer perception to further enhance SPPU’s reputation.
In addition to SPPU, Symbiosis International University and Bharati Vidyapeeth University also made strides in the rankings, showcasing Pune’s growing presence in the academic world.
Moving forward, SPPU will need to strategically focus on internationalization and maintain its research output and employer reputation to solidify its position in future rankings. The university’s commitment to excellence and collaboration will be key in ensuring continued growth and recognition on a global scale.
