Hey Pune, exciting news coming your way! The State Curriculum Framework (SCF) is proposing an increase in school working days to align with the National Education Policy (NEP). This means more time in the classroom for students, as the SCF suggests state schools may need to reduce holidays to meet the NEP’s mandate of 234 working days.

The SCF, prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), has been approved by the Steering Committee. It recommends that state board schools follow the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) academic timetable, which runs from April 1 to March 31. This standardized timetable ensures consistency across India, regardless of weather conditions.

Currently, state schools operate for 6 to 6.5 hours daily, but only 4 to 4.5 hours are available for teaching. The NEP recommends a daily teaching duration of 5 to 6.5 hours, so schools running in two sessions will need to adjust their schedules. The framework also emphasizes the need for students in grades 3 to 5 to receive 1,000 clock hours of instruction annually, and 1,200 hours for grades 6 to 10.

The framework praises CBSE-affiliated schools for maintaining a steady teaching-learning process throughout the year without extended breaks, leading to better academic outcomes. It suggests that state board schools adopt a similar approach for improved educational outcomes. Stay tuned as schools work towards implementing these changes for a brighter future for Pune’s students!
