Hey Pune folks, it looks like there are some changes happening in the city during Ganeshotsav this year. District Collector Suhas Diwase has given the order to stop the sale of liquor in certain areas of the city, including Khadak, Vishrambaug, and Faraaskhana police stations. So if you were planning on grabbing a drink in these areas during the festival, you might have to rethink your plans.

The decision came after a meeting where office bearers suggested that liquor shops in these areas should be closed during Ganeshotsav. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar then sent the proposal to the District Collector, who approved the plan. As a result, liquor shops and pubs in these areas will remain closed until September 18, after the immersion procession is complete.

But the ban doesn’t stop there. On Anant Chaturdashi, liquor sales will also be closed in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and other rural areas. And if you’re planning on attending the Visarjan procession in Pune City, you won’t be able to grab a drink at any liquor shops or pubs along the route until the immersion procession is over.

Additional Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Patil emphasized the importance of respecting the sanctity of the festival and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone caught selling liquor in violation of the order. So if you see anyone trying to sneak a drink during the festival, make sure to report it to the Bharari squads of the Excise Department.

It looks like this Ganeshotsav will be a dry one in certain parts of Pune, so be sure to plan accordingly and enjoy the festivities responsibly!
