Supreme Court Orders Maharashtra Government to Hand Over Land to Housabai Bahirat: In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court has directed the Maharashtra State Government to transfer 24 acres and 38 gunthas of land in Yewalewadi to Housabai Bahirat. This decision comes after Bahirat challenged the government’s allocation of her land in Pashan, Pune, to the Ministry of Defence. The court expressed concerns about the “Ladki Bahin” scheme and reprimanded the state government during the legal dispute. Following a petition filed by Bahirat, the Maharashtra government has agreed to transfer the land in Yewalewadi to resolve the issue. The petitioners have accepted the alternative land, and the government aims to complete the transfer within three months, with a target date in early January. The Supreme Court emphasized the need for a clear timeline and requested confirmation from the state, which assured that the process would be expedited. The Maharashtra Forest Department’s Secretary, Rajesh Kumar, issued an apology that was accepted by the court, leading to the dismissal of a contempt petition. The court also stressed the importance of the Pune District Collector overseeing the transfer of the 24-acre land parcel to the petitioners.
