Hey Pune folks, have you heard the latest news about garbage collection in the city? The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recently made some changes to its agreement with the SWaCH Organisation, the group responsible for door-to-door garbage collection in Pune.

Under the new rules, garbage collectors will now be fined Rs 500 if they are caught collecting garbage on roads or public places, even after cleaning. And if this happens repeatedly, the SWaCH Organisation could lose the contract for that area. The PMC has also allowed other organizations to work in Pune, giving them a chance to pitch in and help keep the city clean.

Since 2008, PMC has been working with SWaCH to collect wet and dry waste from households in Pune. Residents pay a service fee of Rs 85 per household for this service, and the garbage collectors also earn money by selling the recyclables they collect.

The revised agreement with SWaCH will be in place until January 2029, giving the PMC more control over the organization and its employees. The PMC is aiming to reduce littering in public places and ensure better garbage collection in the city.

So next time you see a garbage collector in your area, make sure to appreciate their hard work and help keep Pune clean and green!
