Hey there, folks! Today we’re talking about the hardworking waste pickers of SWaCH who are facing some challenges in renewing their long-term contract. These dedicated individuals protested on August 30th to ensure their livelihood is protected and their services can continue without interruption.

Saru Waghmare, a board member of SWaCH, shared some insights into their unique relationship with the citizens of Pune. Despite the delays in renewing their contract, these waste pickers are committed to their mission of keeping the city clean and environmentally friendly. They are even asking for citizens’ help during the upcoming Ganpati celebrations by handing over Nirmalya separately to SWaCH waste pickers to ensure it is disposed of properly.

To make things easier for everyone, SWaCH waste pickers will be stationed at 45 designated locations on the 12th and 17th of September to collect Nirmalya. They are urging citizens to refrain from disposing of Nirmalya in open areas or water bodies within the city and to instead entrust it to the waste pickers.

So, if you’re in Pune and want to do your part in safeguarding the environment and culture of the city, make sure to hand over your Nirmalya to the SWaCH waste pickers at the designated collection centers listed above. Let’s all work together to keep Pune clean and green!
