It’s a tough time for farmers in Maharashtra as they are facing exploitation due to the lack of an Agriculture Commissioner in the state. The Chief of the Swarajya Organisation, Yuvraj Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati, has raised concerns about the exorbitant prices of fertilizers, seeds, and urea being sold to farmers. In a recent press conference in Pune, he revealed that a sack of fertilizer that should cost Rs. 266 is being sold for as much as Rs. 2800 in some places.

Swarajya Organisation has been proactive in addressing this issue, with their General Secretary, Dr. Dhananjay Jadhav, and colleagues investigating the inflated prices of agricultural inputs in Pune’s market yard. Despite submitting a statement to the Agriculture Commissioner for action, the recent transfer of the commissioner has left the state without a full-time official to oversee agricultural affairs.

Criticism has also been directed towards Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde for promoting a WhatsApp number for complaints instead of taking direct action on the ground. The lack of insurance advances and funds for farmers in drought-affected districts further adds to the urgency of the situation.

Swarajya Organisation has vowed to monitor the exploitation of farmers across Maharashtra and demand strict actions against those responsible for taking advantage of the agricultural community. It remains to be seen how the state government will respond to these pressing issues affecting the livelihoods of farmers in Maharashtra.
