Have you heard the news? Tekawadi village in Pune has officially become Maharashtra’s second 100% solar-powered village! With all 74 electricity connections, including homes, the Gram Panchayat, a temple, and a school, now running on solar power, this achievement is a significant step towards promoting renewable energy in rural areas.

This milestone is part of MSEDCL’s plan to make 100 villages in the state fully solar-powered, with Tekawadi following in the footsteps of Manyachi Wadi in Satara District. The village, home to 1,239 residents, has embraced solar power with each of the 70 homes equipped with a 1-kilowatt rooftop solar system.

The official online inauguration ceremony, led by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, celebrated the dedication of Sarpanch Vithal Shinde and the villagers to the project. Prominent figures such as Khed MLA Dilip Mohite Patil and senior officials from MSEDCL were also in attendance.

With a total solar power generation capacity of 98 kilowatts, Tekawadi produces around 11,760 units of electricity per month, surpassing the average monthly consumption per home. This excess power can even be sold back to MSEDCL, creating potential revenue for the village.

The success of Tekawadi village highlights the importance of sustainable energy solutions in rural India. By harnessing solar power, the community not only meets its energy needs but also contributes to the broader goal of transitioning to renewable energy sources. Kudos to Tekawadi for leading the way towards a greener, more sustainable future!
