Hey there, folks! Today in Swargate, the police have cracked down on a gang of thieves who were causing havoc in Pune. The main suspect, Ganesh Maruti Kathewade, along with his accomplices Suresh Baban Pawar and jeweler Bhim Singh alias Ajay Karansingh Rajput, have been arrested. These guys had been pulling off multiple burglaries by pretending to be delivery boys.
The loot they managed to accumulate was no joke – valuables worth a whopping ₹80 lakh! This included 860 grams of gold, 3.5 kilograms of silver, 150 diamonds, a two-wheeler, two pistols, and five cartridges. Talk about a treasure trove!
The police were able to nab these crooks after a burglary was reported in Swargate back in December. With the help of CCTV footage from over 1,700 cameras, they were able to identify Kathewade and track him down in the Undri area of Kondhwa.
Kathewade spilled the beans during interrogation, admitting to a total of 14 burglaries across the city. He had a pretty slick modus operandi – targeting closed flats in residential societies while posing as a delivery guy. He also confessed to seven thefts at the Swargate State Transport bus stand. Sneaky, right?
But the plot thickens – Kathewade was passing on the stolen goods to Suresh Pawar, a shady character with a rap sheet that includes charges of murder and attempted murder. Pawar, who was out on bail after being charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, was selling the stolen items through jeweler Bhim Singh Rajput.
Pawar, who also happened to be the deputy sarpanch of Ambadvet village in Mulshi taluka, was caught red-handed with two pistols and five cartridges at the time of his arrest. Looks like these guys were not messing around!
Kudos to the Swargate Police team led by Senior Police Inspector Yuvraj Nandre for cracking this case. The team, including Assistant Inspector Rahul Kolambikar and a bunch of dedicated officers, did a stellar job in bringing these criminals to justice. Hats off to our men and women in blue for keeping our streets safe!
