The recent theft at multiple Jain temples in Pune has left residents shocked and concerned. The incident, which took place during Kartik Purnima celebrations, saw the theft of a gold crown and chain from the Jain temple in Citywood Society near Poonawalla Garden.
But it wasn’t an isolated incident. Reports of similar theft attempts at 3-4 other Jain temples within Swargate Police limits on the same day raised suspicions of a pattern.
Thankfully, the Swargate Police didn’t waste any time in getting to the bottom of this. Senior Inspector Yuvraj Nandre led the investigation, which involved analyzing CCTV footage and following up on leads. And it paid off.
A suspect, Naresh Agarchand Jain, was apprehended from Bombay Chawl, Girgaon. During interrogation, Jain confessed to the crimes and even revealed where he had hidden the stolen gold items, valued at ₹4.2 lakh.
What’s even more concerning is that Jain had a history of similar crimes in Mumbai and Dombivli. His modus operandi involved disguising himself as a devotee to gain access to the temples before committing the thefts.
The recovery of the stolen items is a relief, but the investigation is far from over. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information about similar incidents.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in keeping our communities safe. Kudos to the police officers involved, including Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, for their swift action in resolving this case. Let’s all do our part in preventing such crimes from happening again.
