Hey there, folks! Here’s a piece of unfortunate news from Wagholi on this Saturday morning, 23rd February 2025. Radhika Sonawane, a waste picker, lost her life in a tragic accident between 7:15 to 7:30 AM. She was on her way for doorstep waste collection when a water tanker hit her near Gokul Sweet Home at Kesnand Phata.

Radhika, a 52-year-old hardworking woman, was walking along the road when the tanker from Pune to Nagar struck her from behind, causing critical injuries and rendering her unconscious. Rushed to Imax Hospital, doctors confirmed severe injuries to her legs and chest, along with multiple abrasions. Unfortunately, Radhika couldn’t make it and was declared dead during treatment.

The driver, Ajay Dhotre, aged 20, was taken into custody by the Wagholi Police Station. Investigations revealed that he had no valid license and the tanker was uninsured. SWaCH and Kagad Kach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat have condemned this incident, highlighting the negligence of both the driver and the owner.

Radhika’s son-in-law, Sharad Bhakre, has filed a legal complaint against the driver and owner with the police. It’s a heartbreaking loss for Radhika’s family and a stark reminder of the risks waste pickers face every day. Stay safe out there, everyone.
