Tragedy struck near the Bhushi Dam in Lonavala yesterday as five individuals were swept away in a waterfall. Three bodies were initially recovered, with the fourth body retrieved early this morning and the fifth body found at 6 PM today.
The victims have been identified as Shahista Ansari (36), Amima Ansari (13), Umera Ansari (8), Adnan Ansari (4), and Maria Sayyad (9), all from Sayyednagar in Hadapsar, Pune.
Sunil Gaikwad, Chief of Shivdurga Mitra Mandal Lonavala, confirmed the recovery of the fifth victim’s body and urged tourists to be cautious, especially during the rainy season. The recovery efforts involved teams from Shivdurga Mitra and the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Shivaji.
