Hey there, Pune peeps! It’s time to grab your rain boots and umbrellas because the Ujani Dam is making waves – literally. Following heavy rains in the Bhima Valley and Western Ghats, this dam, serving Pune, Solapur, and Nagar districts, has reached full capacity. And let me tell you, the water discharge is no joke – we’re talking a whopping 180,000 cusecs!

To prevent potential flood risks, the dam decided to release 100,000 cusecs into the Bhima riverbed at 11 am. But that’s not all – the Nira River is also pouring its heart out into the Bhima River, causing some serious flooding. The Bhima River is practically bursting at the seams, prompting authorities to issue warnings to villages along its banks.

To keep things under control, water is being released through various canals and gates of the Ujani Dam. Sixteen gates are wide open, with 80,000 cusecs released at 9 am, and a quick bump up to 100,000 cusecs by 11 am. It’s a real team effort to manage the water levels!

The merging of Bhima and Nira rivers near Narsinghpur has got everyone a bit on edge. The flow towards Pandharpur is raising concerns about potential flooding in the area. So, stay vigilant and be prepared, folks!

As of 5th August morning, the Ujani Dam is practically bursting at the seams with a total storage of 116.29 TMC. That’s 99% full, folks! The Daund discharge is at 182,152 cusecs, while the river basin discharge is at 100,000 cusecs. Raosaheb More, the Executive Engineer of Ujani Dam, says, “We had to increase the riverbed discharge to 100,000 cusecs at 11 am to manage the situation effectively.”

So, stay safe, Pune! And keep an eye on those water levels – it’s going to be a wet one out there!
