Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Lohgaon today as officials from the Air Force Station (AFS) Pune and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are teaming up for a joint survey. What’s the survey all about, you ask? Well, they’re on a mission to identify unauthorized constructions within a 100-meter radius of the air base.

Now, AFS Pune is no ordinary base – it’s home to squadrons of Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter aircraft, making it a key strategic location for the Indian Air Force (IAF). But here’s the kicker – the areas surrounding Lohegaon and Dhanori have been seeing a surge in construction, with multistorey buildings popping up left and right. And that’s got officials worried about the security and operational efficiency of the base.

Rohidas Gavhane, the executive engineer at PMC, spilled the beans on the upcoming survey. “We’re teaming up with the IAF for this one. We’ve already ironed out the details and the survey is set to kick off in early June,” he revealed.

But here’s where things get interesting – PMC officials are thinking of using drones for the survey. Yep, you heard that right. They’re currently in talks to get the green light from the bigwigs at Air Headquarters and South Western Air Command. Why? Well, the area around the AFS is a no-drone zone for security reasons. But since the survey is happening within that 100-meter radius, they need special permission to fly those drones.

And here’s a little tidbit from the Defence Estates Office – there was a high-level meeting in the Ministry of Defence recently about unauthorized constructions near defence establishments like AFS Pune. Bimal Kumar Dubey, a big shot from the Ammunition Factory Khadki, has been put in charge of coordinating with PMC and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for the survey.

But wait, there’s more! The IAF is not too happy about the permissions PMC has been handing out for construction in these restricted zones. One IAF official even mentioned that some buildings are dangerously close to the bomb dumping ground at the Air Force station in Lohegaon. Yikes!

So, stay tuned, folks. This joint survey is shaping up to be a real eye-opener for all parties involved. Let’s hope they can sort out these unauthorized constructions before things get out of hand.
