Kalyani Nagar, a bustling residential area in Pune, is currently facing a major issue with pubs and bars operating without the necessary permissions. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) recently confirmed that none of these establishments have been granted the required consent to operate, following a complaint from local citizen group Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN).

Residents of Kalyani Nagar have expressed their growing concerns over the presence of these pubs and bars, especially considering their close proximity to residential complexes. Aaditya Patil, a member of TSKN, was shocked to learn about this lack of permissions, highlighting the accountability of local authorities in ensuring the well-being of the community.

In response to the complaint, MPCB revealed that they have not provided any operational consent to the pubs and bars in Kalyani Nagar. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been tasked with investigating and regulating these establishments, with MPCB requesting an Action Taken Report to be submitted.

One resident, Monica Sharma, expressed frustration over the disturbances caused by these businesses and questioned why no action has been taken yet. With concerns about the issue potentially affecting other parts of Pune, residents are calling on the PMC to take swift and strict action to ensure compliance with regulations, especially in residential areas.

The TSKN group has emphasized the need for better regulation and transparency in the process of approving businesses in neighborhoods. As the residents of Kalyani Nagar await further action from the PMC, they continue to deal with the unauthorized operation of pubs and bars in their community.
