1. Pune city experienced a sudden downpour on the eve of the Dussehra festival, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recording 18.2 mm of rainfall between 7 pm and 8 pm on Friday.
  2. The unexpected rain, caused by the rapid formation of a thunderstorm cloud in the southern part of the city, quickly moved northward, bringing heavy rain within just an hour.
  3. The unanticipated rain affected many roadside vendors selling marigold flowers and apta leaves for the Dussehra festival, causing them to scramble to protect their goods from the downpour.
  4. The rainfall also caused traffic congestion in several parts of the city due to waterlogging, as reported by local officials.
  5. The monsoon, which began retreating from Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district on October 6, has been delayed in its withdrawal process due to the formation of a low-pressure system near the Maharashtra coast.
  6. The well-marked low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea has led to light to moderate rainfall in the region, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow alert for several areas, including Pune district.
  7. The yellow alert will remain in effect until October 13, with rain expected to persist until October 15 according to weather experts.
  8. Residents are advised to stay alert for potential disruptions due to the weather and plan accordingly in light of the yellow alert issued by the IMD.

Stay safe and stay dry, Pune!
