Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Kondhwa today – the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has got its eye on the forests in the area. The Maharashtra forest department has been asked to provide a detailed report on encroachments, tree cover reduction, and land leveling activities in the reserved forest areas of Mohammadwadi and Kondhwa in Pune.

Apparently, a complaint from a concerned social worker named Jaymala Dhankikar spurred this action. She noticed some serious environmental damage happening in the region and decided to speak up. According to her, there has been a lot of tree cutting and hill flattening going on, all in the name of commercial and residential development. She even called out the land mafias who have taken over much of the land and trees.

A forest official in Pune shed some light on the situation, explaining that land originally meant for plantations ended up in the hands of the municipal corporation and local gram panchayats. Since the late 70s, the forest department has been trying to reclaim this land, but it seems like there’s still a long way to go.

The Deputy Conservator of Forests in Pune, Mahadev Mohite, assured the public that there hasn’t been any major construction or land leveling in the reserved forest areas. However, he did mention that some activities may have slipped under the radar. The forest department is now waiting for further instructions before launching a full investigation.

Looks like Kondhwa is in the spotlight now – let’s hope the authorities can sort things out and protect our precious forests! Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
