Hey there, Pune residents! Brace yourselves for some alarming news coming your way. It turns out that a whopping 19 out of 30 private water purification projects in the Sinhagad Road area have been found to be contaminated. Yikes!

But that’s not all – the plot thickens as a rising number of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases have been reported in the region. This has prompted Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale to swing into action. He has directed the Water Supply Department to crack down on the private tanker and RO project operators responsible for supplying impure water.

Dr. Bhosale didn’t mince words when he expressed his concern about the water contamination issue. He highlighted the seriousness of the situation, especially in light of the increasing GBS cases. The Water Supply Department has been given clear instructions to take strict action against those compromising the water quality for residents.

Areas like Khadakwasla, Kirkitwadi, Nanded, Nandoshi, Dhayari, DSK Vishwa, and Ambegaon have been particularly hit hard by the contamination. This has led to state and central teams visiting the region to ensure urgent measures are implemented by municipal and district authorities.

Initial tests on well water used by locals came back clean, but investigations into private tanker water revealed the presence of harmful bacteria like E. coli. Despite receiving confirmation of the contamination, municipal authorities initially resorted to issuing written warnings to tanker operators. However, the situation demanded stricter measures.

To get to the bottom of things, municipal officials collected samples from 30 purification projects in the area and put them to the test. The results were not pretty – water from 19 of these projects was deemed unsafe for consumption. Dr. Bhosale wasted no time in ordering legal action against the culprits as per municipal regulations.

So, Pune folks, stay vigilant and ensure the water you’re consuming is safe. Let’s hope this issue gets resolved quickly for the health and well-being of all residents. Stay safe!
