Hey there, Pune peeps! Looks like the Lonavala Municipal Council is in hot water for polluting the Indrayani and Ulhas rivers with untreated sewage. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board is not messing around and has given them a stern warning to clean up their act.

According to recent inspections, the council’s sewage treatment project is basically a flop, and all that untreated waste is making its way into the rivers, causing major contamination. The MPCB is not pleased and has reminded the council of their duty to treat all sewage within their jurisdiction.

Surprisingly, the council hasn’t even bothered to get a separate power connection for their sewage treatment facility. Come on, guys, get it together! The MPCB has cited orders from the National Green Tribunal and is ready to take legal action if the council doesn’t come up with a plan for 100 percent sewage treatment within 15 days.

Jagannath Salunkhe, the Regional Officer of MPCB, is not playing around when he says failure to comply will result in legal action. Let’s hope the council gets their act together and starts taking care of our rivers before it’s too late!
