It’s that time of year again when Pune residents gear up for Dussehra celebrations by splurging on new vehicles. This year, over 10,000 vehicles were registered with the RTO, with a notable increase in the number of e-vehicles hitting the roads.
While the enthusiasm for vehicle purchases remains high during Dussehra, there has been a slight dip in comparison to last year. The sale of e-vehicles, in particular, has seen a significant decline, raising concerns about the future of sustainable transportation in the city.
Traditionally, Dussehra is a time when people indulge in buying new vehicles, along with other luxury items like gold, silver, and clothes. This year, over 6,000 two-wheelers and nearly 3,000 four-wheelers were added to Pune’s already congested roads.
The Pune RTO also reported a surge in the registration of rickshaws, buses, taxis, and goods vehicles, indicating a growing demand for public transportation options as well. Last year, the numbers were slightly higher, with more four-wheelers being purchased during the festive period.
As the city continues to grow and evolve, it will be interesting to see how the trend of vehicle purchases during Dussehra reflects the changing priorities and preferences of Pune residents.
