Pune, known for its beautiful weather and thriving culture, has once again been hit hard by heavy rains and dam discharge, causing flooding in many areas of the city. Among those affected are Vidya and Mukund Gosavi, an elderly couple living in Vitthalwadi.

Vidya, 67, and Mukund, 75, have faced many challenges in their lives, including the tragic loss of both their children. Vidya works as a cook, while Mukund takes on small acting roles in films and serials to make ends meet.

The recent flooding has only added to their struggles. Water from the overflowing riverbed entered their home, leaving them knee-deep in water. Their belongings, including their bed and washing machine, were submerged, forcing them to seek shelter in a nearby office.

Vidya, visibly upset by the situation, pleaded for permanent solutions to prevent future flooding incidents. She emphasized the need for better drainage systems and the removal of encroachments near streams to ensure the safety of residents.

As Pune grapples with the aftermath of yet another flood, it is clear that urgent action is needed to protect vulnerable communities like the Gosavis from further harm. Let’s hope that authorities take heed of Vidya’s plea and work towards a more resilient future for the city.
