Hey Pimpri residents, looks like the water pipeline project from Pavana Dam to Nigdi is still on hold! The PCMC has been dragging its feet on implementing this crucial project, despite the stay being lifted nine months ago. And now, it seems like the State Assembly elections might further delay the much-needed water supply.

The whole saga began back in 2008 when the PCMC planned to bring water from Pavana Dam to Nigdi to meet the increasing demand due to the growing population of the twin towns. However, the project faced opposition from Maval residents, leading to a tragic incident where three farmers lost their lives during protests.

Fast forward to 2023, when the then Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar tried to kickstart the project again. But even after nine months of lifting the stay, no progress has been made. The PCMC has even appointed a new consultant to come up with a new plan, but no new tenders have been floated yet.

Meanwhile, as the pipes lie unused in various locations, the PCMC has spent over Rs 8 crore on rent and security for these sites. And with NCP (AP) MLA Sunil Shelke and BJP MLA Bala Bhegde opposing the project, it looks like Pimpri-Chinchwad residents will have to wait even longer for a reliable water supply.

So, hang in there Pimpri folks, it looks like the water issue is far from being resolved anytime soon!
