Yerawada Central Jail has recently implemented an updated system to enhance security measures and prevent prisoner escapes. The system includes biometrics, panic alarms, and a public address system, all aimed at closely monitoring inmate movements. This initiative was part of the Modernization of Prisons Project and was carried out by Invader Technologies Pvt Ltd from Gurugram. The system was inaugurated by Dr. Jalindar Supekar, Special Inspector General of Police for the Maharashtra Prison Department, with the guidance of other key officials.
The benefits of the updated system are numerous. The biometric system restricts unauthorized entry, monitors staff and visitor movements, and ensures only authorized individuals are allowed entry. It also tracks prisoner movements to prevent escapes and screens visitors. The panic alarm button provides rapid response to emergencies, alerts officers in case of riots or violence, and sends immediate notifications for medical assistance. The public address system facilitates effective communication and allows officers to make announcements and observe prisoner behavior.
The implementation of this system is a significant step towards enhancing security measures in prisons, not only at Yerawada Central Jail but also in other prisons across the state in a phased manner. The presence of key officials and company representatives at the inauguration highlights the importance of this initiative in ensuring the safety and security of both staff and inmates.
