The Yerawada Open Jail continues to make strides in inmate rehabilitation with the launch of another canteen, Shrunkhala Upahar Gruha 2, near Panchshil IT Park. This initiative, which began with the inauguration of a canteen near Commerzone IT Park last year, aims to provide employment opportunities for inmates who have shown good conduct.
Managed by convicts who have been transferred to the open jail, these canteens are part of a network of eateries overseen by top officials from the Maharashtra Prison Department. ADG Amitabh Gupta and DIG Swati Sathe have been instrumental in guiding this project, which not only benefits the inmates but also offers affordable food options for citizens.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Shrunkhala Upahar Gruha 2 was a success, with ADG Gupta emphasizing the importance of creating job opportunities for inmates. DIG Sathe highlighted the positive impact of the canteen on the morale of the inmates and their rehabilitation process.
The event was attended by key officials from the prison department, including Principal Nitin Vaichal and Superintendents Sunil Dhamal and Anil Khamkar. Overall, this initiative showcases the commitment of the Yerawada Open Jail towards inmate welfare and community integration.
