Hey Pune folks, it’s time to pay attention to the rising Zika virus cases in our city! With a total of 66 cases and four deaths so far, the situation is definitely concerning. The Public Health Department has launched an investigation to understand the root cause of the outbreak.

The recent heavy rains have created ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes, leading to a spike in Zika infections. Stagnant water and increased dirt only add to the risk of getting infected. Pregnant women, children, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the virus, so it’s crucial for everyone to take necessary precautions.

A 19-year-old pregnant woman from Bavdhan is the latest victim of Zika, adding to the growing number of cases in Pune. In just a span of a few days, eight new cases have been reported, including six pregnant women, a 40-year-old man from Katraj, and an 18-year-old boy from Kondhwa. The PMC Health Department is closely monitoring all infected individuals and their contacts to contain the spread of the virus.

Since June 20th, Pune district has seen a total of 73 Zika cases, with most of them concentrated in Pune city. Five cases have been reported in Pune Rural and two in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Let’s all stay vigilant and follow the necessary guidelines to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from Zika.
