In a recent development, three new cases have emerged in the Erandwane Regional Office, involving a 19-year-old woman and two elderly men. These patients are currently exhibiting symptoms of fever and their blood samples have been sent for testing at the National Institute of Virology.
Tragically, the death toll from Zika in Pune has reached five, with all the deceased patients being senior citizens with underlying health conditions. The victims include individuals from Kharadi, Pashan, Baner, Kothrud, and Karvenagar.
Efforts are underway by the Pune Municipal Corporation and health authorities to contain the outbreak, with a focus on mosquito control measures and public education. Residents are reminded to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, which are the primary mode of Zika transmission.
Key statistics from the outbreak show a total of 103 cases, with 45 of them involving pregnant patients and five resulting in fatalities. Pune residents are urged to stay informed and cooperate with health officials to help curb the spread of the Zika virus in the city.
