Hey Pune folks, it looks like we’ve got a new health concern on our hands – Zika virus infections are on the rise in our city. As of now, there have been a total of 19 confirmed cases, with even a senior citizen falling victim to this mosquito-borne illness.

The Municipal Health Department is not taking this lightly and has already started taking steps to prevent further spread of the virus, especially among vulnerable groups like pregnant women and the elderly.

Interestingly, out of the 19 cases, 10 are pregnant women and the rest are senior citizens. One 61-year-old resident from Hadapsar was initially hospitalized for gastroenteritis but was later diagnosed with Zika. Treatment has already begun for this patient.

Erandwane seems to be the hotspot for Zika cases, with six reported cases in that area alone. Other affected areas include Mundhwa, Dahanukar Colony, Pashan, Ambegaon, Kharadi, and Yerawada.

Symptoms of Zika include joint pain, headache, red eyes, vomiting, fever, red spots on the body, and diarrhea. All patients in Pune have shown signs of fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and weakness.

The Municipal Health Department is working hard to contain the spread of the virus, especially among pregnant women who are being tested city-wide to catch any cases early and provide appropriate treatment. Stay safe, Pune!
