Hey Pune, it’s time to be cautious as the number of zika virus cases in the city has risen to 66, with four deaths reported so far. The Public Health Department has appointed a committee to investigate the reasons behind these deaths, especially as 26 of the patients are pregnant women.
The rainy season has increased the risk of the disease due to stagnant water and unhygienic conditions. Children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the infection. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s Health Department is working to examine all zika virus patients and those who have been in contact with them to prevent further spread.
One 19-year-old pregnant woman from Bavdhan has tested positive for the virus, bringing the total number of cases to 66. Eight new cases were reported over the weekend, including six pregnant women, a 40-year-old man, and an 18-year-old boy. PMC Health Officer Dr Nina Borate has confirmed a total of 73 cases in the district, with four suspected deaths in the city.
Remember, the zika virus is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which also spreads dengue and chikungunya. Symptoms include fever, body ache, and joint pain, with pregnant women at risk of giving birth to babies with neurological complications. Stay safe and take precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
